The Davy Descender comprises a patented geared centrifugal brake mechanism.
High tenacity polyester cable runs through the mechanism.
Slings are secured to each end of the cable.
Cable length is determined by the height of the unit above the landing level.
When not in use a reel is supplied to store the loose cable.
In use the reel is dropped to the ground releasing the cable.
The first escapee secures the sling around the chest under the arms.
Descent can then proceed at approximately 1 metre per second.
As descent proceeds the other sling ascends for the next escapee.
